This past Friday night witnessed the continued from reversal, and increased intensity, of both our flu ravaged First and Second Fifteens. Considering the hot and cold nature of previous matches, which at times was clearly as a result of declining concentration levels during the forty minutes around the break, the game was thoroughly enjoyed by our loyal band of supporters.
Of particular interest for me was the crucial impact of a highly efficient and punishing defensive pattern, that left the Mariners scratching their collective heads and more than once wondering just what it was that had laid them flat on their backs. Big hits from the back rowers, halves and centre combination, drew more than a few gasps from the crowd.
Yet again disciple and the inability to let questionable calls pass us by, in no small way contributed to a somewhat lopsided transgression count that we only have ourselves to blame for. That being said, the team must reduce the number of occasions we hand these gifts, and subsequent field position, to the opposition with the same passion and enthusiasm they have shown for our new running game, I’m sure the man with the whistle will be no more impressed than me.
This Saturday see’s a further test of our determination, when the club is hosted by Port Douglas in Port Douglas, it will be pleasing for me to see how we measure up on the road. However in order to have a realistic run at the points we all must try to attend training, I am well aware of some individual circumstances and never fear; in my books family does and must come first, however maximum attendance on Wednesdays is my ultimate target. Some of our players appear to have gone missing over the past few weeks, so if we can track them down and get their boots back on, we will see ourselves in a very strong position to make a run at the finals.
